7 CRIMES AGAINST NARRATIVE: WHY THE 'FUTURE TRUNKS' REMAKE IS DEAD ON ARRIVAL

Welcome back, mortals and mid-tier fighters! It’s Ultima Ultear, and I’m currently rubbing my temples because just thinking about the Goku Black Arc gives me a migraine that even a Senzu bean couldn't fix. 💊✨

This arc had the coolest aesthetic in Super—a dark, post-apocalyptic vibe, a sinister doppelgänger, and the return of everyone’s favorite trauma-victim, Future Trunks. But then Toei happened. They took a gold mine and turned it into a pile of "What the hell were they thinking?"

If Toei had an ounce of shame, they’d fix these 7 disasters in a remaster. But they don't, so they won't. Let’s dive into the trash fire!

1. Zamasu’s "Zero Humans" Plan is Mid-Tier Philosophy

Can we address the "villain" for a second? Black/Zamasu is an absolute idiot. His entire motivation is "Mortals are icky and they don't listen to God, so I'm going to kill them all." Yawn. 🥱 This is some "edgy 14-year-old on Reddit" level philosophy.

For the love of God! Give him a better reason! Maybe he saw a future where mortals actually surpassed and destroyed the gods, causing a cosmic imbalance. Make his crusade a tragic necessity in his eyes, not just a temper tantrum because a mortal touched his divine lawn.

2. The Power Scaling is a Hallucination

One minute Future Trunks is struggling with base Black, the next he’s holding his own against Fused Zamasu? PICK A SIDE, TOEI. The "Super Saiyan Rage" form was literally just a "we need him to be strong now" button with no explanation. In a remaster, give Trunks a legitimate, earned power-up or a tactical role that doesn't rely on plot armor. No time to show Trunks training? Fine! Use the manga plot instead: Trunks is a "Kaioshin Apprentice" and he's got the "Ultimate" form, like Gohan.

3. Stop Making Goku a Brain-Dead Moron

This is the arc where Goku forgot the senzu beans and the seal for the Mafuba. 🤦‍♀️ Imagine being the savior of the universe and having the short-term memory of a goldfish. A remaster needs to let Goku be a competent warrior who actually takes a threat to his son's future seriously.

4. Vegetas’ Revenge Needs Meat

Vegeta beating the brakes off Black in the manga was PEAK. In the anime, it felt like a brief spark before the plot reset. We need a remaster that lets Vegeta’s growth—as a father and a prince—be the centerpiece of the combat. Let him dismantle the man wearing his rival's face with surgical precision.

5. The "Spirit Sword" Ass-Pull

Trunks kills a literal god with a Spirit Bomb sword made from the energy of... like, thirty hungry people? Make it make sense. 🗡️✨ If you're going to give Trunks the win (which he deserved), make the mechanism grounded in the lore, not just "the power of friendship" on steroids.

6. The Ending: Zen-Oh is a Narrative Cheat Code

Bringing in Zen-Oh to just "delete" the universe because the writers backed themselves into a corner is the peak of lazy writing. It made everything Trunks fought for—his world, his mother, his friends—completely pointless.

We need a remake where they actually defeat Zamasu through strategy or a combined final effort, leaving the timeline intact. Don't just hit the "Reset" button and call it a day.

7. Humans Deserve Better

I love Mai, but her shooting at a God of Destruction level entity with a standard rifle and expecting results is peak comedy. Give the humans something useful to do—like using Bulma’s tech to disrupt God Ki—rather than just being targets for the background art. If they argue it carefully, I could accept the introduction of technology of this caliber; Bulma has already created a F*CKING TIME MACHINE, so...

ULTIMA’S FINAL WORD: The Goku Black arc was a 5/10 concept with a 2/10 execution. Toei is too scared to give us a dark, consequential ending, so they gave us a cosmic eraser instead. F*CKING D0GSH!T!
